" The Liebster Award! "
Imagine my sheer surprise (and delight) when I recently received a message from fellow travel and lifestyle blogger, C’est Angelique , informing me that she had nominated my blog for the Liebster Award!
Before I could even get a chance to google what the Liebster Award was all about, I was struck by the level of positivity and encouragement that it fostered in the blogging community.
Based in Florida, Angelique's travel and lifestyle blog is a feast for the eyes for dreamy travel inspiration and helpful tips for global travel. So to get a thumbs up from a fellow blogger whose work I admire was truly the cherry on top! Go check out Angelique's blog for more wanderlust worthy travel inspiration!
What is the Liebster Award?
Besides being the coolest way of giving fellow bloggers a nod of encouragement from each other, the Liebster Award (a virtual award in the blogging community) is essentially a perpetual chain of nominations from one blogger to another.
By helping bloggers promote each other on their websites and social media platforms, the Liebster Award fosters support within the blogging community and helps readers to discover and connect with new bloggers.
Ultimately, the Liebster award is to give new bloggers (like myself) a giant pat on the back - a really sweet token of appreciation!
THE RULES FOR THE LIEBSTER AWARD ARE AS FOLLOWS :
Soaking up the sunshine in Cascais, Portugal
MY ANSWERS TO C'EST ANGELIQUE’S QUESTIONS :
1. What is your top travel tip for other travelers and tourists?
My top travel tip for other travellers is to always travel with an open mind! While planning a travel itinerary of the things you would like to do and see is never a bad thing, I think it is good to always leave room for the unexpected. If you are willing to soak up the travel experiences as they come (and are willing to get lost from time to time!) I think you will find that is when the real travel adventures begin!
2. What camera do you use to capture photos for your blog?
I use the Canon EOS 750D (also known as the Rebel T6i) to capture my travel moments and blog photos.
3. Tell us about your favorite blog post and share the link.
My favourite blog post is about my recent trip to Lisbon, Portugal. While I wrote a few posts about that trip, my favourite post is about my visit to a beautiful palace in the mountains of Sintra, a small town outside Lisbon. The palace, known as Pena Palace, was literally the most beautiful and out-of-this world piece of architecture that I have ever seen.Even as I look at those photos now, I can't help but think that it was all a dream!
4. What advice do you have for other bloggers?
My advice for other bloggers would be to stick to the purpose and unique vision of your blog. There are so many blogs out there, that (especially for new bloggers) it often feels like our blogs are a tiny, insignificant drop in a huge ocean of other (more well-known) blogs . But I am learning that no matter what, stick to your guns! There is something unique about your blog that will undoubtedly resonate with many people out there - and as with anything, be patient , with time your blog will grow!
5. What travel plans do you have for 2017?
I am the worst when it comes to making concrete travel plans! I usually just go with the flow and if the opportunity for a great trip comes up, then I'll take it! So, watch this space.. :-)
6. When you have writer’s block, what do you do to work it out?
I have found that the best cure for writer's block is to step away (for a little while) from the piece that I am writing. Going for a short walk or even just cooking, gives my brain the time to relax and to think about other things. After doing this, I go back to my writing and usually find that the ideas flow more easily, or better yet, a completely brand new idea (often a better one) emerges out of the blue!
7. Why did you start blogging?
I have always wanted to start a blog - ever since my husband and I started living abroad in 2013. The new places and things we saw, prompted me to share those experiences with friends and family back home (in South Africa). After enrolling in a short photography course in 2015, I grew more confident about capturing and sharing our travel photos - and then I finally plucked up the courage to begin my blog!
A beautiful Village in Sintra, Portugal
8. What do you love and hate most about blogging?
What I love most is to see an idea that was in my mind all along, finally come to life in a blog post! I love the creative outlet that blogging gives me, and particularly with my own blog, I am able to freely create whatever I want! What I "hate" the most would be writer's block. Having to juggle the role of writer, website designer, photographer, creative mind (and model) can often be challenging too.
9. What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Loud-Introvert, Foodie, Creative
10. Fill in the blank: true confession, I really hate it when _______________.
..I struggle to meet my own deadlines for blog posts (shameful I know!), but I'm working on it! :-)
MY LIEBSTER AWARD NOMINEES:
What first attracted me to Sanyu's blog were the vivid, bright colours of her Instagram page and her amazing outfits (this girl has style!). It also didn't hurt that we shared some African roots (Sanyu being Australian, and of South-Sudanese descent).
Sanyu says that her blog is all about " inspiring people to live a bold and colorful life through travel and fashion. " True to this vision, emblazoned in bold on her website, are the words " Live your colorful adventure!".
Fellow Floridian, Stephanie, of Travel Taste Click, writes about great local brews, eats (read: tacos), day trips and destinations in the Sunshine State.
When I first came across Stephanie's blog, the humour and style of writing in the post titled " Musings of a First Time Solo Traveler ", had me so enthralled that I just kept reading on!
With a focus on photography, a passion for creativity and a foodie mindset, Travel Taste Click highlights the best that Florida has to offer locals and visitors alike!
QUESTIONS FOR MY NOMINEES:
1. What inspires you to travel?
