A Taste of Miami
Famed for its vibrant nightlife, a world-class food scene and beautiful beaches (and people!), Miami is high on the list when it comes to the world's top holiday destinations.
Having lived in Florida (the much quieter side, in Tampa) for nearly a year now, we finally decided to get a taste for the enticing fun and the famed delights right on our doorstep, during a recent weekend getaway to Miami.
In between exploring the city's vibrant South Beach area (bursting with colourful characters and Art Deco buildings) we also managed to find some great dinner and cocktail spots in the downtown city area (" where the locals go to get away from the crowds").
Finding it hard to resist the cool and calm oasis of our hotel, we squeezed in a relaxing spa session - a welcome energy boost from all that Miami heat- before hitting the streets again!
Despite having only spent a short three days there, Miami proved to be the perfect weekend getaway, and delivering all the goods, it certainly lived up to its name! We'll be back, without a doubt!
I loved Miami's colourful Art-Deco buildings which reminded me of a similar beach-front buildings in my hometown, Durban. While Cape Town is currently Miami's sister city in South Africa, I think they need to review this asap!

MIAMI - MY TOP PICKS :
The Conrad Hotel
Located in downtown Miami this hotel was the perfect location from which we could explore restaurants and shops in the city's entertainment hub near Brickell Village (5 min walk) and is also a short drive (10-15mins) to the South Beach area. Besides great rooms (with a nice ocean-themed decor) and a nice spa, the hotel also has a great rooftop bar/lounge where we enjoyed breakfast in the mornings - served with an amazing view!
The PERFECT spot for cocktails!! We spotted this little restaurant/lounge on our first night in Miami and I immediately fell in love it's sultry vibe (it's all in that name!) and gorgeous decor and rooftop bar. We stopped by Lolita's for dinner on our last night in the city and the food was great too - I loved the little "cell phone boxes " they have on the tables to encourage people to put their phones away and enjoy the moment!
This little 'open-air' shopping village is located in the downtown area, a five minute walk from the Conrad Hotel, and is a much nicer alternative to a mall for all your shopping and dining needs. It boasts a nice selection of shops, restaurants and bars, all located in a square near water fountains , and no matter your tastes there is something for everyone. Oh , and it's conveniently located right across from Lolita's! Thank me later, while sipping your cocktail :-)
