Being that I haven't done any travel posts in a while, I thought I would share some photos of our little safari adventures during a recent trip back home to South Africa.
Before this, the last safari I ever went on was in the seventh grade! So I was excited when my hubby suggested that , as a special treat for my father-in-law (whose first trip it was to South Africa and on safari!), we spend two-nights at a lovely game reserve in the Eastern Cape province.
Besides stuffing ourselves with the delicious food on offer (I think we gave the animals some competition in terms of eating our weight in food!), each day consisted of two game drives - one at the break of dawn and one in the early evenings. During both days we were lucky enough to spot most of the big five and we managed to spot all except for the elusive leopard!
Apart from taking occasional breaks in the middle of the bush in order to ask our game ranger questions (and most importantly to snack on some cheese and wine - a stark contrast to my school safari's!) my favourite part about the entire experience were the giraffes!
I don't know what the game reserve feeds these guys - they were the most affectionate (and expressive) giraffes I have ever seen!
At the end of our safari I didn't want to leave - it felt so good to be home and to experience some of the wild and natural beauty that we are so lucky to have at our doorstep!
As a bonus, I leave you with some pics of this cheeky cheetah - who I think was either pulling funny faces at me or was in the middle of doing some serious toilet business as I snapped his pics! Lol..
